About  Us

Mission, Beliefs & Story

Our Mission

We aspire to overflow with the redeeming love of Christ where we live, work, and play.

Core Beliefs

  • We believe that we are all broken, sinful people that are restored to wholeness by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
  • Part of the wholeness that God desires for us is found through participation in a church body that comes together as a community of worship.
  • We worship God as he has revealed himself in Scripture and the world around us.  We believe that Jesus is the rightful king of the universe, and his kingdom is established wherever he is recognized as king!
  • We believe in partnership with other churches and organizations in the area that serve the needs of the North Boroughs.  God is at work at this very hour, and we seek to extend his kingdom by joining him and those doing his work around us.
  • As we endeavor to extend God’s kingdom all areas of life, we have found that rootedness in historic Anglican worship helps us hold fast to what is most important in a culture where this has become increasingly difficult.

Our Story

Redeemer Anglican Church is a daughter church of St. Stephen’s Church in Sewickley, the largest parish  in the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh. The leadership at St. Stephen’s identified the North Boroughs  area as favorable for a new church, and the Revs. Seth Zimmerman and Paul Hassell were appointed as  a church-planting team. Redeemer was launched in 2015, and the first public worship service was held  Christmas Eve, 2016. In 2018, Paul left to plant a new church in Florida.

Seth Zimmerman bought a home in Bellevue and was active in many community activities, attracting  the first congregation. In particular, the church attracted many young men and women who participated  in the Pittsburgh Fellows Program, which provides a one-year vocational internship for recent college  graduates. Under Seth’s leadership, the church has grown to about 60 members with average Sunday  attendance of 40.
In January 2021, Seth announced that he was returning to the staff of St Stephen’s. Seth believed that  Redeemer needed a different set of gifts to move from our early phase of church plant into our next  phase of growth and development as a parish.

After a period of discernment in Lent 2021, the leadership at Redeemer decided to become an independent congregation seeking to become a Mission Fellowship in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Diocese approved our request, and we were formally accepted at the Diocesan Convention in November 2021. We are living into our new independence and excited about what the Lord will call us to next.

In July 2022, after a year of searching and discerning, we welcomed our new pastor, The Rev. Ethan Carlson and his family. We are excited for what Ethan’s leadership means for our congregation as we live into our mission of overflowing with the redeeming love of Christ where we live, work, and play.
